Mileway Privacy Policy
Effective: 22 May 2026 · Last updated: 22 May 2026
The short version
Mileway is built so that your driving data never leaves your phone unless you explicitly enable iCloud sync (which uses your private Apple iCloud database with Apple's end-to-end encryption). We — the developer — have no servers, no analytics, no third-party SDKs, and no ability to see your trips.
What Mileway collects on your device
- Trip data: timestamps, distance, coordinates of start and end, a compressed route polyline, your assigned category, and any optional client / vehicle / notes / tolls / fuel cost you attach. Stored in a local SwiftData database protected by NSFileProtectionComplete.
- Frequent locations: places you visit ≥ 3 times. Anonymous until you give them a label.
- Subscription state: whether you've activated a trial or purchased Pro / Pro+. Provided by StoreKit. We see no transaction details beyond that.
- Settings: your chosen tax region, distance units, notification preferences, etc.
What Mileway never collects
- Your name, email address, or phone number. There is no Mileway account.
- Your IDFA / advertising identifier.
- Crash reports, analytics events, or device fingerprints sent to any non-Apple server.
- Health, financial, or contact data.
What goes on the network
The only network requests Mileway makes are Apple-mediated services:
- StoreKit — to display localized subscription prices and validate purchases.
- iCloud sync (off by default) — when you enable it in Settings, your private SwiftData container syncs to your own iCloud account using Apple's E2E-encrypted private database (container id
iCloud.com.mileway.app). Apple, not the developer, holds the keys; the developer cannot read this data.
Reports you share
When you tap "Export PDF" or "Export CSV", Mileway writes the file to the iOS share sheet so you can email it, AirDrop it, or save it to Files. The contents of that file leave the app the moment you share it; what happens next is governed by the recipient (your accountant, QuickBooks, etc.). Toggle "Anonymise locations in PDF reports" if you want addresses replaced with "Start" / "End" placeholders before sharing.
Your controls
- "Export all data (JSON)" in Settings → Privacy. Download a complete machine-readable backup any time.
- "Delete all data" in Settings → Privacy. Wipes the local database AND the iCloud copy. Type
DELETE to confirm.
- "Anonymise locations in PDF reports" — replaces addresses before exporting.
- "iCloud sync" toggle — off by default; turn on only if you want multi-device sync.
Children
Mileway is not directed at children. It tracks personal vehicle mileage and has no social, communication, or location-sharing surface.
Changes
If we ever change what's described here, this page will be updated and the in-app About section will link to the latest version.
