Squint is built so there is nothing to collect. We do not operate a server, and the app contains no analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking SDKs.

What we collect

Nothing leaves your device. Squint's App Privacy label is "Data Not Collected" in every category.

Face data (TrueDepth / ARKit)

What is collected: On devices with a TrueDepth camera, Squint uses ARKit face tracking during a vision self-check to read one number: the distance, in meters, between your face and the screen. This is derived from the position of ARKit's face anchor. Squint does not access or read the camera image, the depth map, the face mesh or geometry, facial blend-shapes/expressions, or any facial features, and it does not use face data to identify or authenticate you.

How it is used: The single distance value is used in real time, only while a self-check is on screen, to size the eye-chart letters correctly for your viewing distance and to warn you if the phone is too close.

Sharing / disclosure: Face data is never shared, sold, or disclosed to anyone. Squint has no server and contains no analytics, advertising, or third-party SDKs, so this data is never transmitted off your device.

Storage / retention: The face data (camera image, depth map, and face mesh) is never stored — it is processed live in memory and discarded immediately. The distance number is not retained as face data; only the derived self-check result (for example, the line you could read) is saved locally on your device, with no facial information attached.

Where your data lives

Your self-check history, eye-break records, and journal entries are stored locally on your device under Apple's file protection. If you subscribe to Plus and enable iCloud sync, this data is synced through your own private, end-to-end-encrypted iCloud container. We cannot access it.

Health data

If you allow it, Squint writes a 20-second "mindful session" to Apple Health each time you complete a 20-20-20 break. This stays in your Health app on your device. Squint does not read or upload your other health data.

On-device intelligence

The optional weekly Ergonomics Plan (Plus) runs entirely on-device using Apple's on-device language model. No prompt or output is sent to any server.

Children

Squint does not register users. Family members under 13 are added only through Apple Family Sharing by a family organizer.
