these terms describe what you can expect from ghost and what we expect from you. by installing or using the app, you agree to them. if you don't agree, please don't install the app, or uninstall it.
[before publishing: replace "the developer" throughout this document with your registered legal entity name (or sole-proprietor name) and set the "governing law" jurisdiction to where you actually reside.]
01what ghost is
ghost is a private journaling app for the apple ecosystem. it gives you a sealed surface to write messages that are never sent to anyone — words you'd say to a person you've decided not to (or can't) actually message. nothing you write inside ghost reaches another human being through ghost. the recipient side of every conversation is fictional or empty.
02what ghost is not
- ghost is not a messaging service. you cannot send a message to anyone using this app.
- ghost is not therapy, counseling, or a medical service. it is a writing tool. if you are in crisis, please reach out to 988 (us) or findahelpline.com (global).
- ghost is not a social network. there is no feed, no follow, no public profile, no community feature, no comments, no upvotes.
- ghost is not a "deceased loved ones" simulator and should not be used to grieve people who have died. the imagined-reply engine is a deliberately playful word-bank assembly with explicit fiction labels — it is not designed to comfort or console as a substitute for the real person.
03your account
there is no account. there is no sign-in. there is no password to forget. your data lives on your device only. transferring to a new phone means starting fresh — there is no cloud sync because there is no cloud.
04the one-time unlock
the first 5 ghosts are free, forever. for the 6th and beyond, the app offers a one-time unlock for $9.99 (or local equivalent) processed by apple via storekit. this is a non-renewing, non-consumable purchase: you pay once, you keep it forever, including on future devices signed into the same apple id. there is no subscription, no recurring charge, and we cannot refund the purchase ourselves — refunds are handled by apple per apple's terms.
05acceptable use
ghost is a private surface — what you write is between you and your phone. that said, by installing the app you agree not to use it to:
- impersonate or defame a real person to anyone outside your own device. the imagined-reply feature generates clearly-labeled fictional content for your private use; it is not for screenshotting and posting as if it were that person's real words.
- store content that is illegal where you live to possess or transmit.
- circumvent apple's review process or attempt to repackage / redistribute the binary.
06intellectual property
the ghost app, its icon, its source code, its visual design, and the editorial palette ("oxblood", "rose", "lavender", "bone", etc.) are © 2026 the developer. all rights reserved. you receive a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the app on devices you own, per apple's standard EULA (and our supplementary eula). the words you write inside the app belong to you.
07third-party trademarks
names like "imessage", "whatsapp", "hinge", and similar belong to their respective owners and are not used inside the ghost app. ghost uses generic relationship-context labels ("dating app", "messenger", "encrypted chat", "work", "friend") to avoid any implication of affiliation.
08warranty disclaimer
ghost is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. we do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, that defects will be corrected, or that the app is free of harmful components. some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties; in those jurisdictions the exclusions only apply to the maximum extent permitted by law.
09limitation of liability
to the maximum extent permitted by law, ghost and its developer ("the developer") will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly. our aggregate liability for any claim arising out of these terms or your use of ghost is limited to the amount you paid for the app in the 12 months preceding the claim — which, for most users, is zero or $9.99.
10termination
you can stop using ghost at any time by deleting the app. we may discontinue distributing ghost on the app store, in which case you'll keep the version you've already installed; we may also push updates or, if necessary for security or compliance, remove features. we will not remotely wipe data you've already written.
11governing law
these terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where the developer is established, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. nothing here removes any non-waivable consumer protection you have under the laws of your home country.
