Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Defuse is an iOS application published by Zhang Jiahao ("we", "us", "our"). You can reach us at jasperabundant@gmail.com.

2. Information we do not collect

We have engineered Defuse so that the following information never leaves your device and never reaches us:

• The fears you type into the defuse session.
• The scripts the engine generates from those fears.
• Your daily check-in scores or one-line "what's looming" entries.
• Saved scripts and their titles.
• Your subscription tier (we read it from Apple at launch but do not log it).
• Any device identifier, advertising identifier, or analytics event.

The app contains no third-party SDKs for analytics, attribution, advertising, crash reporting, or A/B testing.

3. Information stored locally on your device

Defuse writes JSON files to your app's Application Support directory (sandboxed by iOS) and uses UserDefaults for preferences. The contents are visible only to you and to the app itself. They include:

• Daily check-ins (date, anxiety level 0–10, optional one-line text).
• Defuse scripts you generate (your input fear text, the generated scenes, a UUID, and a timestamp).
• Preferences: preferred voice style, daily reminder time, onboarding state, lifetime session counters.

Unsaved drafts older than 7 days are automatically purged at app launch.

4. How Apple may collect data on our behalf

Although we do not collect data, Apple does collect limited operational data when you use the App Store and its services. This is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, not ours.

• Subscriptions. If you purchase Defuse Pro, Apple processes the transaction. We see a verified subscription receipt, never a card number.
• Crash diagnostics. If you have opted in to "Share with App Developers" in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements, Apple sends us aggregated, anonymised crash logs. You can turn this off at any time.

5. Notifications

If you enable the daily check-in reminder in Settings, Defuse schedules a local notification through iOS. The notification is generated and delivered entirely on your device. We do not use push notifications and have no notification server.

6. Children

Defuse is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from anyone of any age, but the content includes deadpan dark humour and is rated 12+ in the App Store accordingly.

7. Sharing

Because we do not collect anything, there is nothing to share. Defuse contains a "share as image" feature that produces a PNG on your device; whether and where you share that PNG is entirely your decision.

8. Your rights

You can exercise the following at any time, with no need to contact us:

• Delete all data. Settings → Privacy → Delete all data. This removes every check-in and saved script from your device.
• Uninstall. Deleting the Defuse app from your device removes all associated data.
• Disable notifications. Toggle in Settings inside Defuse, or revoke in iOS Settings.

9. Required-reason API disclosures

Per Apple's Required Reason API guidance, Defuse uses the following Apple-provided APIs for the listed reasons. None of these APIs are used for tracking.

• UserDefaults — to store preferences locally on the device (App Functionality, reason CA92.1).
• FileManager file timestamps — to write app data and to display recency of saved scripts (App Functionality, reason C617.1).
• System boot time — used by the Swift runtime; we do not access this directly (App Functionality, reason 35F9.1).

10. International users

Defuse is hosted entirely on your device. Because we do not collect or transmit personal data, no cross-border data transfer occurs. The hotline links shown in the app are static and do not call any external service when displayed.

11. Changes to this policy

If we materially change this policy we will publish the updated version at this URL, update the "Last updated" date above, and (where required) prompt you on next app launch. Your continued use of Defuse after the change indicates acceptance.
